About PDF compression
PDF files grow large primarily because of embedded images — photographs in scanned documents, charts in slide exports, screenshots in reports. This tool works by re-rendering each page at a reduced resolution and JPEG quality, then packaging the result into a new, smaller PDF.
For text-only PDFs with no images, the size reduction will be modest — the text is already stored efficiently as vector data. For scanned documents and exported presentations, you can typically expect 40–70% size reduction at the Medium level.
